NIST Test Method Evaluations

Proficiency Training and Evaluations

Proficiency evaluations for personnel who operate, monitor or make decisions inside a site’s UAS and counter-UAS program, using the aerial drone standard test methods developed by NIST. NIST does not certify participants. ClearPoint Aero has its instructors certified by the Regional Training Center (RTC) as NIST UAS Proctors, authorizing them to administer these evaluations. These test methods are used by public safety departments and corporate organizations to establish a standard of qualification. Evaluations can be held at ClearPoint’s UAV tactical training facility, or delivered on site at your location. Contact us to discuss bringing training and evaluation to your location.

C-UAS Response & Scene Management

Protocol Training and Evaluations

Protocol-based training for personnel who may be first on scene for a drone incursion, including private company response personnel, security forces, law enforcement, fire and EMS, investigators, and incident commanders. Participants learn to establish an immediate safety perimeter, preserve evidence and maintain chain of custody for a recovered aircraft, and apply investigative techniques to help locate a control station, while maintaining situational awareness of any continued aerial activity. This training addresses scene protocol and forensics, not mitigation. It does not authorize participants to disrupt, disable or seize a drone in flight. Training can be held at ClearPoint’s UAV tactical training facility, or delivered on site at your location. Contact us to discuss bringing training and evaluation to your location.

Common questions

Who should be certified: security staff, operations staff, or both?

It depends on who the site has actually assigned to monitor, decide and respond. Certification is scoped to the roles a site staffs rather than issued as a blanket requirement across departments.

Should an assessment come before training?

It helps, but it is not required. Training builds competency in people. An assessment establishes what those people need to be competent at for this specific site. Organizations get the most from certification when it follows a DVRA or at least a documented threat profile.

Is training and proficiency evaluations using the aerial drone standard test methods developed by NIST the same as an accreditation?

No. NIST develops the aerial drone standard test methods that ClearPoint uses to run its proficiency evaluations and certify its students, but NIST does not certify or accredit anyone. ClearPoint’s own C-UAS Response & Scene Management training is separate scene-protocol instruction and is not the FBI National Counter-UAS Training Center certification that the SAFER SKIES Act requires of agencies seeking mitigation authority.

Can training be delivered without a prior ClearPoint engagement?

Yes. Entry is possible at any stage, including Sustain, though the certification is more targeted when it follows a survey or assessment that has already identified the site’s specific gaps.

Do certifications need to be renewed?

Renewal depends on the course. ClearPoint certifies students against NIST Test Method Levels 1 through 5. A student who passes the examination for a given level receives ClearPoint certification for that level, with no refresher required. ClearPoint has not set a fixed refresher cycle for C-UAS Response & Scene Management. An organization can schedule a refresher session on the cadence that fits its personnel turnover and how its procedures and threat picture change over time.
